Rameswaram has a big Railway station that is being connected to various cities in India. There are many Expresses and goods trains are coming from various cities. There are two direct express trains to Chennai and one passenger Train to Madurai and tiruchirapalli (Trichy). for the welfare of Kanyakumari tourists an express train is running between Nagercoil and Rameswaram.

Rameswaram railway station is very clean and is well maintained by southern Railways department of India.

Earlier there were train communication between dhanushkodi and rameswaram and after the disaster of dhanushkodi the rail routes were damaged and thus the government stopped the Rail communications.
