Pamban Bridge

Pamban Bridge is the Welcome gate to Rameswaram. This bridge is one of the longest bridge in India with the length of 2.3 metres. People who are visiting rameswaram in train having their first sight seeing in Pamban Bridge. This is one of the key place to be noted and important place to take photograph. This bridge was built by British people in earlier centuries.

This bridge is a cantilever bridge. Earlier meter gauge train was running through this track and later broad gauge was laid to enhance the train journey to adapt more number of passengers.
Cantilever bridge is a kind of bridge which can be opened and closed. Using a lever this bridge can be separated. This was laid in this manner to make the ship pass through this bridge. Till now the ships are passing by this way.

Pamban bridge is the second longest bridge in India. This bridge is supported by concrete pillars. A portion of this bridge can be raised. This is the key factor of this bridge.

It would be an awesome journey if you happen to cross this bridge in the Rameswaram express (Train). This bridge was recently damaged by a ship and the news were spread all around the world. This is a sea  bridge and it is used by train to cross over the sea and for reaching rameswaram.

Like this sea bridge there is a Road bridge also built parallel to enhance road transport to Rameswaram.
